Terry Lowe grew up in a family metal fabrication business that was started by his grandfather. The company manufactured a specialized line of forage harvesting equipment that was sold world-wide. To fill in during slow periods, the company also did custom fabrication work. Working in the family business, Terry "had the opportunity to learn from some real craftsmen.” Terry later taught welding at Penta County Vocational Schools and was Fabrication Shop Manager for The Andersons before starting Spec-Weld Technologies.

In addition to having a lot of in-plant training, Terry received both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of Toledo. He has attended countless trade-specific programs and has read extensively. The quantity of customers he has worked with over the years has also given him a broad range of knowledge in process and production techniques.

Besides his educational qualifications, Terry has received the American Welding Society District Educator Award, District CWI of the Year Award, and Distinguished Member Award. He has also received two Ohio Vocational Welding Instructor of the Year Awards. He has participated in the writing of four welding text books in collaboration with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and is a member of the American Welding Society D8C and D8G Code committees for automotive welding.
